Leadership

Are you having difficulty following through with a program or intervention? Try grouping up with friends, family or even a pet to help you stay consistent. You can even find programs with specialized trainers or therapist that can lead or motivate you to continue your daily physical activities.

A Family Affair

Children who grow up watching their parents exercise, and are encouraged to exercise by their family members are far more likely to show higher levels of physical activity than their peers who do not have a positive parental influence when it comes to exercise. The younger children are when receiving this kind of encouragement, the better it sticks!

This article by John Pugliese and Barbara Tinsley from Arizona State University describes the role of a parent's influence on their child's physical activity habits in greater detail.

Leadership among Instructors

Leaders inspire and lead those who believe in them. When an instructor embodies the qualities of a leader their students will remain motivated to continue attending group exercise classes. Group exercise classes are great ways to introduce exercise into the individuals' lifestyle. With continued appreciation and enjoyment they are more like to adhere to exercise.

This article by Laura F Rowe and Matthew J Slater from the International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching describes the role of the Instructor for their attendees on exercise adherence and participation.
